Used Books Rating Guide

MINT (M) ~ The book is in near perfect condition & is virtually impossible to tell from a new copy.

FINE (F) ~ The book appears to be in excellent condition, with closer inspection signs of previous ownership & storage are noticed. These may be a small inscription, slight rubbing etc.

VERY GOOD (VG) ~ Slightly less than fine condition. There may be slight foxing or fading, rubs etc. But the book is sound.

GOOD (G) ~ These books are obviously 'used,' however they are complete in all respects. Less lovely than the other ratings, but overall it is 'good.'

POOR (P) ~ Often these are called 'reading copies,' as these books display serious wear. This may include being warped, the preliminary pages may be missing, the spine damaged (sometimes this is suggested as 'worthy of re-binding,' which is quite expensive & unless a very rare book, not worth the investment.) The text however will be complete.

NOTE: Hardcovers with dustjackets may have two ratings ~ one for the book, another for the jacket.
